After nearly fifty people complained of serious eye irritations, the dairy cow pavilion at the Royal Adelaide Show has been closed down. Organizers are blaming stagnant urine for the irritations. St John Ambulance volunteers were called to the Dairy Cattle pavilion after some people reported irritation to their eyes. 30 people required treatment at the site. 20 more people reported to the emergency department of the Royal Adelaide Hospital where their eyes were washed.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced that it has awarded 83 grants in FY2009 totaling $17.5 million to state and local regulatory agencies to boost food and feed safety initiatives among federal, state, and local partners.
Adaptive Sound Technologies, Inc. (ASTI) announced today that the Stanford University Medical Center has purchased Ecotones Duet Adaptive Sleep Sound Machines. "It is well known that noise in hospitals affects patient comfort and recovery, as well as staff performance. ASTI's adaptive technology can help with these problems," stated Sam Nicolino, President and CEO of ASTI.
Cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA), although difficult to diagnose in young children, shows a causative relationship to otolaryngic symptoms. A new study in the August journal, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery suggests an elimination diet may help manage such conditions in children under two and reduce the need for more serious upper airway tests and interventions.
