Researchers at the Joslin Diabetes Center have shown that insulin has a previously unknown effect that plays a role in aging and lifespan, a finding that could ultimately provide a mechanism for gene manipulations that could help people live longer and healthier lives.
Saneron CCEL Therapeutics, Inc. of Tampa, Florida, and South Texas Blood & Tissue Center of San Antonio, have signed a clinical supply and research collaboration agreement. Under the agreement, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center will research approaches for recovering and processing proprietary mononuclear cells from umbilical cord blood.
Scientists have discovered that factors such as human immunity and drug resistance are less important to the success of bacterial spread than previously thought.
Bone marrow is a leading source of adult stem cells, which are increasingly used for research and therapeutic interventions, but extracting the cells is an arduous and often painful process. Now, researchers have found evidence that fat tissue, known as adipose tissue, may be a promising new source of valuable and easy-to-obtain regenerative cells called hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs), according to astudy prepublished online in Blood, the official journal of the American Society of Hematology.
The funds were diverted to the Internal Revenue Service outside the normal appropriations process to help the agency implement the overhaul. Meanwhile, other news outlets report on developments related to accountable care organizations and primary care payment issues.
