My wife and I attended my 30-year college reunion a couple of weekends ago, but the partying was bittersweet. My freshman roommate, Scott Androes, was in a Seattle hospital bed, a victim in part of a broken health care system. One-third of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth have attempted suicide in their lifetime - a prevalence comparable to urban, minority youth - but a majority do not experience mental illness, according to a report by researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, today announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted a hearing to allow the company the opportunity to present its views on why Avastin® (bevacizumab) should remain FDA-approved for metastatic breast cancer (mBC). The FDA has scheduled the hearing for June 28 to 29, 2011.
Reproducibility of results and high throughput are crucial goals for many molecular biology labs, but it can be challenging to achieve these together without appropriate instrumentation. This creates a need for reliable instruments to minimize user error and perform accurate measurements consistently for numerous samples.
