A new Australian study has revealed an alarming trend showing one in three pregnant or breastfeeding woman are still drinking alcohol. The Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation (AERF) feel that in spite of warnings to pregnant women to cut out alcohol completely from their diets, many women are ignoring such warnings.
A team of US-based scientists recently developed a novel vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2, the causative pathogen of COVID-19. The vaccine is composed of extracellular vesicles of Salmonella typhimurium incorporated with the spike receptor-binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2. Upon intranasal administration in hamsters, the vaccine induces strong blood antibody titers and protects against severe COVID-19.
Malaria control strategies must keep up with the rapidly changing patterns of malaria infection in low transmission settings, according to the authors of a new Review, published in The Lancet. Whereas women and young children suffer from the greatest burden of malaria in high transmission areas, an increasing proportion of malaria cases in low transmission settings are occurring in adult men, sometimes concentrated in small geographic areas and sharing certain occupations or behaviours.
Aeolus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that after review of the Company's white paper on development of AEOL-10150 as a countermeasure for the lung effects of acute radiation syndrome, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) Division of Chemical, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Countermeasures has informed the Company that, after careful analysis and consideration, it has invited Aeolus to submit a full proposal for a contract to develop AEOL 10150 from its current level of technical readiness to FDA approval.
