In a move more than two years in the making, a National Quality Forum (NQF) endorsement became effective today of the first nationally recognized hospital-based performance measures for quality of care for breast and colorectal cancer.
Pharmacyclics, Inc. today announced that it has submitted a New Drug Application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the investigational oral Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitor, ibrutinib, for two relapsed/refractory B-cell malignancy indications: mantle cell lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma.
"The Obama administration's new Global Health Initiative, designed to broaden and better integrate health programming overseas, deserves wide support. But stalling on global AIDS threatens to undermine the worthy goals of the initiative," Chris Collins, vice president and director of public polity for the Foundation for AIDS Research, writes in a Boston Globe letter to the editor calling for sustained support for PEPFAR.
Each year, phytoplankton blooms known as "red tides" kill millions of fish and other marine organisms and blanket vast areas of coastal water around the world.
