Feinstein Institute for Medical Research Assistant Professor Amit Baumel, PhD, has developed Enlight, a tool to evaluate the quality and therapeutic potential of computer and mobile-based eHealth applications.
A team of investigators at the University of Kentucky has made a thought-provoking discovery about a type of cholesterol previously believed to be a "bad guy" in the development of heart disease and other conditions.
Changes to standard urine orders in a computer physician order entry (CPOE) system, resulted in a 45% reduction in unnecessary urine cultures ordered, a change that is expected prevent unnecessary treatment of asymptomatic patients whose bacteria counts are above normal.
EuroNanoMed, a European funding initiative under the ERA-Net scheme of the European Commission aimed at advancing transnational research in Nanomedicine, announced today the projects that will be funded following its 2nd joint transnational call for collaborative research projects. Eight projects, involving 46 partners from 10 countries will be funded with €8 Million provided by EuroNanoMed partners. The research projects were chosen from 33 applications involving 178 applicant groups from 19 EU member and associated states/regions.
Previous research identified the interferon-responsive OAS1 gene as a risk gene for Alzheimer's disease. OAS1 is an enzyme that binds to double-stranded RNA and induces the conformation to create oligoadenylates. They also activate RNase L to break down RNA.
