IBM and Brightlight today announced that Seattle Children's Hospital is using IBM Big Data technology to improve treatment of its young patients. With over 350,000 patient visits annually and thousands of data points associated with each patient, Seattle Children's Hospital can run queries on patient data in seconds, rather than minutes, to provide quicker, more effective care and diagnosis.
Connecticut physicians believe they could be providing better care to patients of diverse racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds if they had training that was more accessible, according to the results of a survey released today by the Connecticut State Medical Society.
For the third consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report named Hospital for Special Surgery the top hospital in the country for orthopedics in its 2012 "America's Best Hospitals" survey. Once again, the hospital ranked as a leader in rheumatology at number three in the nation. In addition, neurology was ranked at No. 10.
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has announced the publication of its new manual Surgical Patient Safety: Essential Information for Surgeons in Today's Environment. Edited by Barry M. Manuel, MD, FACS, and Paul F. Nora, MD, FACS, the manual is intended to provide guidance and leadership in evolving areas of patient safety in the surgical profession.
Previous research has suggested that the long-term use of female hormone therapy is associated with an increased risk of developing breast cancer, according to background information in the article.
