Computer gaming technology is being used to develop and pilot two low cost, next-generation screening tools for 'lazy eye' in children.
Researchers have found a causal link between caesarean section birth, low intestinal microbiota and peanut sensitivity in infants, and they report the effect is more pronounced in children of Asian descent than others, in a recently published paper in the journal of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Several of Cancer Research UK's scientists have been named on this year's New Year's Honours list, as has the government's National Cancer Director and a long-term supporter of the charity.
John DeLuca, PhD, vice president for research at Kessler Foundation, is the featured speaker at the grand opening of the new Science Complex at William Paterson University's College of Science and Health. Dr. DeLuca, a well known expert in cognitive function, will discuss "Neuroimaging, Brain and Behavior: New Opportunities for the Future," on March 1, 2012 12:30 to 1:05 pm in the Science East Lecture Hall.
For the first time, new research shows that patterns of alcohol consumption - a drink or two every night, or several cocktails on Friday and Saturday nights only - may be more important in determining alcohol's influence on heart health than the total amount consumed.
