Researchers have created a new, open-access tool that allows doctors and scientists to evaluate infant brain health by assessing the concentration of various chemical markers, called metabolites, in the brain. The tool compiled data from 140 infants to determine normal ranges for these metabolites.
New Danish research provides mechanistic insight into how DNA is monitored and repaired if damage occurs. The results may eventually help to improve the treatment of certain types of cancer, as the DNA repair complex provides a mechanism for cancer cells to resist chemotherapy.
A Cleveland Clinic colon cancer risk assessment survey found that respondents who exercised more followed a healthy diet and did not smoke were less likely to have a personal history of colorectal cancer or colon polyps.
Overuse injuries -found most often in low-contact sports that involve long training sessions or where the same movement is repeated numerous times - make up nearly 30 percent of all injuries sustained by collegiate athletes.
Substandard and counterfeit versions of thirteen key antimalarial medicines were uncovered in multiple locations across Ghana by the Medicines Quality Monitoring surveillance program. Set up by the Ghana Food and Drugs Board (FDB) in collaboration with the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the program samples antimalarials across the public and private sectors.
