McKesson Corporation today reported that revenues for the third quarter ended December 31, 2012 were $31.2 billion, up 1% compared to $30.8 billion a year ago. On the basis of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, third-quarter earnings per diluted share was $1.24 compared to $1.20 a year ago.

Researchers help explain why smart drugs are not effective in some cancer patients

Some of the most effective and expensive cancer drugs, dubbed "smart drugs" for their ability to stop tumors by targeting key drivers of cancer cell growth, are not effective in some patients. In two related studies, Yale School of Medicine researchers examined one such driver, the EGF receptor, and found that a decoy receptor might be limiting the amount of drug that gets to the intended target.

Study identifies link between kidney stones in children and atherosclerosis

A recent study published in The Journal of Pediatrics is the first to examine and identify a link between kidney stones in children and thickened or hardened arteries — precursors to a wide variety of cardiovascular diseases. Understanding the connection between kidney stones and cardiovascular risk factors in children may help physicians and parents implement prevention measures to reduce future risk of stroke, heart attack or other forms of vascular disease for affected children.
