AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Astellas Pharma Inc. today announced that tivozanib demonstrated superiority over sorafenib in the primary endpoint of progression-free survival (PFS) in TIVO-1, a global, randomized Phase 3 clinical trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of investigational drug tivozanib compared to sorafenib in 517 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma.
A trial of an experimental drug to treat advanced liver cancer has helped extend patients lives by as much as three months.
Wait times in U.S. emergency departments are increasing. A new study published in Economic Inquiry indicates that prolonging the wait time in the emergency department for a patient who arrives with a serious condition by 10 minutes will increase the hospital's cost to care for the patient by an average of 6%, and it will increase the cost to care for moderately severe cases by an average of 3%.
For many patients with advanced Parkinson's disease, deep brain stimulation can mean the difference between having difficulty walking and being able to run.
