Martin Warren, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Kent's Department of Biosciences, has been awarded over £750,000 from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council for a study into biochemical pathways that could ultimately lead to improved health benefits for humans, as well as the development of important new technologies and products for agriculture and bioremediation (the use of plants or microorganisms to clean up pollution or contaminated material).
Psychologists from the University of Exeter are leading a major project looking at how robots can enable people to interact in public spaces - without actually being there.
"The Chinese and British governments are cooperating on a program to improve global health policy for developing countries, with the launch in Beijing on January 16 of a new U.K.-China partnership," China Daily reports.
The Council for Disability Awareness (CDA) is making it easier for financial planners, benefit advisors, employers and human resource professionals to help people learn about their risks of becoming disabled by offering a new, printed version of the popular Personal Disability Quotient (PDQ) calculator.
Reducing smoking, and its associated health effects, among Medicaid recipients in each state by just 1 percent would result in $2.6 billion in total Medicaid savings the following year, according to new research by UC San Francisco.
