In a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience and funded by the Wellcome Trust, Newcastle University scientists reveal the interaction between the region of the brain that processes sound, the auditory cortex, and the amygdala, which is active in the processing of negative emotions when we hear unpleasant sounds.
The Vascular Birthmarks Foundation (VBF), along with the Beckman Laser Institute (BLI) and Medical Director Dr. J. Stuart Nelson, are holding the fourteenth annual Port Wine Stain and Vascular Birthmarks Conference beginning today at the University of California-Irvine.
A team led by scientists at The Scripps Research Institute have discovered a direct link between insulin-a hormone long associated with metabolism and metabolic disorders such as diabetes-and core body temperature. While much research has been conducted on insulin since its discovery in the 1920s, this is the first time the hormone has been connected to the fundamental process of temperature regulation.
In a study examining disparities and trends in the inclusion of minorities, women, and older patients in cancer clinical trials, investigators found that certain populations remain under-represented.
An engineered virus kills cancer cells more effectively than another virus currently used in treatments, according to Hokkaido University researchers.
