U-Systems, the leader in automated breast ultrasound, today announced it will showcase the recently introduced somo•v Platinum, an update to the somo•v® Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) system, at the 22nd Annual National Interdisciplinary Breast Center Conference of the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC).
A new study revealed that the novel self-expanding super-elastic all-metal endoprosthesis stent (SESAME Stent) used in patients undergoing angioplasty of degenerated saphenous vein graft (SVG) lesions has 100% acute success, low 30 day major adverse cardiac events (MACE) rates, and 9-month patency comparable to balloon expandable stents without embolic protection.
Dr. Christopher Basler, a professor in the Institute for Biomedical Sciences at Georgia State University, director of the university's Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Microbial Pathogenesis, has received a five-year, $4.1 million federal grant to develop a drug targeting Ebola virus.
In light of an aging population and increasing chronic vascular disease, there is a tremendous unmet need for new medical technologies to treat potentially dangerous chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and blood clots, according to a Scientia Advisors review of the vascular device market released today. Both the CVI and the thrombosis segments present significant opportunities for medical device innovators.
The record number of people last year without health insurance — 50.7 million, up from 46.3 million in 2008 — provides stark evidence of why the country desperately needs the health care reforms enacted in March (9/16).
