Although clinical evidence is lacking on the relationship between the storage time of red blood cells and outcomes in transfused patients, the authors of a review article in the November 2013 issue of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery are advocating for a modernized blood management system—similar to inventory management systems seen in the retail sector—to potentially reduce patient complications.
Publishing in PLoS Pathogens, researchers at from the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson have found a novel mechanism by which drugs block HIV-1 from entering host cells.
Almost 2,000 Hispanics donate organs every year in the United States, saving countless lives in the process, a contribution that will be recognized by the Donate Life float taking part in the 123rd Rose Parade in Pasadena. Five Hispanic men have been chosen to ride on the float as recognition for their gift of life to others through living donation or for the role they played in a deceased loved one's donation.
Due to the rarity of advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), staying current with the latest information on diagnosing, treating, and supporting patients with this diagnosis can be challenging for clinicians who do not often encounter advanced cSCC in practice.
Smith & Nephew's Endoscopy Division announced the kick-off of its inaugural fellowship meeting, The Wider Scope of Arthroscopy, at its global headquarters in Andover, Mass., starting today, Sept. 14 through Sept. 15. The event is also being supported by DJO, a leading global developer, manufacturer and distributor of high-quality medical devices that provide solutions for musculoskeletal health, vascular health and pain management.
