A prescription drug already approved to treat genital warts and skin cancer may have a new use in boosting the effectiveness of future vaccines for bacterial and viral diseases, such as hepatitis C and HIV (the AIDS virus). Potentia Pharmaceuticals, a privately-held biotechnology company developing medicines for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), announced today that it has entered into licensing and purchase option agreements with Alcon Research, Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alcon, Inc.
A survey of Colorado home health care clinicians revealed that 60 percent said they had not received enough information to guide patient treatment while 52 percent said patients often had unrealistic expectations of the kind of care they would receive.
People who received two doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine while on TNF inhibitors -; a class of immunosuppressants used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune conditions -; generated less powerful and shorter-lived antibodies against the virus that causes COVID-19 than healthy people and those on other kinds of immunosuppressants, according to a study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
