eClinicalWorks, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that Oklahoma's Comanche County Memorial Hospital has chosen the eClinicalWorks comprehensive electronic health records (EHR) solution for its employed physicians across 28 locations that are multi-specialty.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that it is working with the maker of Xigris (drotrecogin alfa activated), Eli Lilly and Company, to further evaluate the incidence of serious bleeding events and death in patients who receive Xigris, a drug used to treat severe sepsis (a blood stream infection).
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced $82 million in awards to help bolster the country's nursing workforce. Administered by HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the awards will provide financial support to nurses and nursing students in exchange for service at health care facilities with a shortage of nurses.
A study of the salamander brain has led researchers at Karolinska Institutet to discover a hitherto unknown function of the neurotransmitter dopamine. In an article published in the scientific journal Cell Stem Cell they show how in acting as a kind of switch for stem cells, dopamine controls the formation of new neurons in the adult brain. Their findings may one day contribute to new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's.
Flamel Technologies today announced the initiation of a Phase 2a clinical trial of Flamel's Interferon alpha-2b XL (IFN-alpha-2b XL), which is based on Flamel's Medusa® platform for controlled release of biologics. IFN-alpha-2b XL is being developed as a controlled release of unmodified interferon alpha-2b for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV).
