Researchers have been able to confirm most but not all of the results of a high-profile study that brought new hope to diabetes patients. This study provides a boost for efforts to reverse type-1 diabetes in recently diagnosed patients but not for efforts to grow new islets from spleens.
Experts believe that the lone star tick is responsible for the meat allergies people are developing in South-eastern states including North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The ticks are spreading up the Eastern seaboard to new locations, where they are triggering allergies after just a single mouthful of meat is eaten.
The Academy of Medical Sciences is today (Friday, 13th October) announcing the pledge from The Yusuf and Farida Hamied Foundation1 for a scheme to build stronger research links between the UK and India to jointly address the challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The amount of information gathered via next-generation sequencing has made the diagnosis of genetic disorders quicker and more accessible to clinicians than ever before, but with expanded testing options come questions about ordering the correct type of testing.
