According a new study that appeared this week in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, simple pain reliever, Ibuprofen, could be having a problematic effect on the testes of young men. Ibuprofen is taken almost routinely by young athletes for injuries and pain.
To sustain the efforts that have been made in the past three years to combat bullying, Highmark Healthy High 5, an initiative of the Highmark Foundation, is awarding an additional $3.3 million during the next two years to the Windber Research Institute (WRI) and the Center for Safe Schools (CSS).
A drug currently approved for osteoporosis treatment has been shown to reduce bone loss in a study of mice with oral cancer, suggesting it could serve as an important supplemental therapy in patients with head and neck cancers that erode bone.
Zucker Hillside Hospital today celebrated the opening of a new 130,000-square-foot, $120 million inpatient pavilion. Constructed with the generous support of North Shore-LIJ Health System trustees Donald and Barbara Zucker and other donors, the 130,000-square-foot building will consolidate outdated living quarters dispersed across the psychiatric facility's campus, significantly improving the coordination of services and treatment along the continuum of care.
