Scientists behind the first global distribution maps of two species of dengue and chikungunya-carrying mosquitoes warn they are spreading to new areas where they could cause disease.
In late 2020, several concerning SARS-CoV-2 variants emerged globally. They are believed to be more easily transmissible, and there is concern that some may reduce the effectiveness of antibody treatments and vaccines.
Researchers at Columbia University Irving Medical Center say that overactive brainwave activity is the underlying cause of essential tremor – a common movement disorder that causes involuntary rhythmic shaking in around 4% of people aged over 40.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) announced today that the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York has granted preliminary approval of settlement of Sampson v. Robinson, et al., Case No. 1:07-CV-06890 (on appeal: Case No. 08-5475), a shareholder action pursued derivatively on behalf of Bristol-Myers Squibb. The action concerned allegations relating to the efforts to settle the Plavix patent litigation in 2006. The proposed settlement is subject to final Court approval. The Court has set a final approval hearing for December 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the courtroom of the Honorable Paul A. Crotty, United States District Judge.
The WHO will convene a meeting of its emergency committee later this month to assess whether H1N1 (swine flu) has peaked, Keiji Fukuda, the special adviser to the WHO's director general for pandemic influenza, said Thursday, Bloomberg reports.
