Measuring naturally occurring calcium isotopes in urine could indicate whether someone is experiencing bone loss long before traditional imaging methods are able to, say US researchers.
What began as a summer internship project designed for an undergraduate student evolved into a one-year study of one of the deadliest, but little known viruses.
Thermal properties of cells regulate their ability to store, transport or exchange heat with their environment. So gaining control of these properties is of great interest for optimizing cryopreservation - the process of freezing and storing blood or tissues, which is also used when transporting organs for transplants.
Head injury patients transferred to level I trauma centers are more likely to survive than if they're transferred to level II facilities, an Oregon Health & Science University study has found.
Researchers with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) have found that people with lung cancer were significantly more likely to have several high-risk forms of human papillomavirus (HPV) antibodies compared to those who did not have lung cancer. These results, which were presented at the AACR 102nd Annual Meeting 2011, held April 2-6, indicate that HPV antibodies are substantially increased in people with lung cancer.
