BSD Medical Corporation today reported clinical study data showing that hyperthermia, using the BSD-2000 Hyperthermia System, combined with chemotherapy has the potential to improve control rate and long-term survival for the treatment of children with high-risk cancer who have a dismal prognosis.
Final-stage clinical trials of a cervical cancer vaccine developed by University of Queensland (UQ) scientists, have shown the drug to be 100 per cent effective.
Allergan, Inc. today announced a new study published in the peer-reviewed journal Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases that found the cost of a gastric banding weight-loss surgery procedure, such as Allergan's LAP-BAND Adjustable Gastric Banding System, was offset by reductions in obesity-related medical costs within 2.25 years for surgery eligible patients with diabetes, and within four years of the procedure for all surgery eligible patients.
In this New York Times opinion piece, Frank Smithuis, director of Medical Action Myanmar in Yangon, and Nick White, professor of tropical medicine at the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit in Bangkok, recount a brief history of the development of anti-malaria drugs and their contribution to "a significant global reduction in malaria" and note that this progress "is now threatened by the emergence of malaria parasites that are resistant to artemisinin on the Cambodia-Thailand border ..., the same place where chloroquine resistance emerged 50 years ago and spread across Asia and Africa to claim millions of lives."
According to new research that will receive the Graduate Student Research Award on Saturday, June 5, at the 19th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, questionnaires can help dentists screen for sleep-disordered breathing in a pediatric population. SDB includes obstructive sleep apnea, upper-airway resistance syndrome, and snoring.
