A new technique developed by statisticians that is helping doctors optimize the dose of a new cancer treatment patients receive in phase I/ II clinical trials was presented today by Juhee Lee, assistant professor of applied mathematics and statistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, during a session at the 2015 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM 2015) in Seattle.
Treating heart attack patients with hypothermia reduces the amount of heart damage by more than one third after balloon angioplasty. Researchers in Lund, Sweden have today released the results of a study showing that the amount of heart damage in heart attack patients whose body temperature was lower than 35˚C (95˚F) was reduced by more than one third after they were treated with balloon angioplasty to open their clogged heart vessel.
A new study which was presented at the annual conference of Society for Endocrinology reports that vitamin B12 deficiency could disrupt the normal metabolism of fat and could indirectly contribute to weight gain and obesity in pregnancy. This emphasizes the need supplement this vitamin during pregnancy, because obesity in pregnancy is linked to a number of adverse health outcomes over the long term, including diabetes.
