Scientists have acquired a more dynamic picture of events that underlie the functions of a bacterial biological clock.
Non-communicable diseases are a "slow-moving catastrophe" that could overwhelm even the richest countries without action to address their underlying causes, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said at the First Global Ministerial Conference on Healthy Lifestyles and Non-communicable Disease Control in Moscow on Thursday, the U.N. News Centre reports.
Listeriosis is a disease caused by eating foods that have been contaminated by the Listeria monocytogenes bacterium.
Building on their 2005 discovery of an enzyme that is a natural tumor suppressor, researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine have now identified two variants of that enzyme which could provide new targets for therapies to treat diabetes, heart and neurological disease.
