Advocates in seven California cities are expanding a year-long effort to keep African-American women from dying needlessly from breast cancer, with a new statewide campaign aimed at overcoming cultural stereotypes and helping African-American women gain access to mammogram screenings, and into and through treatment if necessary.
Each year over a million people suffer from sepsis, a condition caused by an infection spreading through the body. If sepsis develops into severe sepsis then the death rate can rise to nearly 30 - 50%, equalling the number of deaths caused by a heart attack.
Hospitals that provide quality care for young people do not always provide the same quality care for the elderly, a new study has found.
Last week the deficit-reduction panel received a slew of recommendations from across Capitol Hill on how to tame the nation's deficit problems. The input evidenced partisan differences and intra-party fissures. All the while, questions persist about the committee's ability to actually reach a deal.
