A call for participants has been issued in the process of establishing a national certification for medical interpreters. Building upon the work the IMIA started in the 1980s with the ultimate goal of certification, volunteers are now needed to undergo the final written exam pilot in support of national certification.
Researchers have identified factors associated with motor, cognitive and mood outcomes after deep-brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus in a large cohort of patients with Parkinson's disease.
Sometimes negative results can point researchers in the right direction. In results published in PLOS ONE on September 4, 2018, scientists at the Medical University of South Carolina examined a protein called vaccinia-related kinase 1 that they hypothesized was important for metastasis. They found that, rather than causing cancer cells to migrate and invade, VRK1 over-expression had the opposite effect.
A NEW technology that encourages child asthmatics to take medications has been hailed by experts as a breakthrough device, after a landmark study, showed children were 180% more likely to comply with drug regimes.
