Engaging in regular physical activity is associated with less decline in cognitive function in older adults, according to two studies published Online First by Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
A bid to make a £250m project catering "cutting-edge" radiotherapy centers in Manchester and London by 2017 has been confirmed. The plan will see University College London Hospital (UCLH) and The Christie offer proton beam therapy, which uses a particle beam to destroy cancer cells.
Our heart is constantly beating yet we normally do not feel it. It turns out that our brain is capable of filtering out the cardiac sensation so that it doesn't interfere with the brain's ability to perceive external sensations. For the first time, researchers from the Center for Neuroprosthetics at EPFL have identified this mechanism. They discovered that a certain region in the brain determines where internal and external sensations interact. Their work appears in the Journal of Neuroscience.
After shrinking in 2009, the world economy is expected to grow in 2010 and 2011, the World Bank predicted in a report issued Wednesday, Agence France-Presse reports in a piece that outlines the bank's predictions (Smith, 1/20).
"It is well known that genes control the nutrient levels in cow's milk" said Richard B. Weinberg, M.D. "But until now, no one has considered how genes might affect human breast milk. This is the first study to demonstrate a genetic effect on human lactation." The results were presented today at Digestive Disease Week 2005 in Chicago, Ill.
