4SC AG, a drug discovery and development company, today announced that the first patient has been dosed in the Phase I/II SHORE study with the oral pan-histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor resminostat as a second-line treatment for patients with advanced and metastatic colorectal KRAS-mutant cancer.
Investigators at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey have found that a treatment based on a novel cellular product programmed to deliver an overabundance of chimeric antigen receptor causes cell death in non-Hodgkin lymphoma models that are sensitive or resistant to standard therapies.
Very-low-birthweight preterm infants with thrombocytopenia treated with cyclooxygenase inhibitors are at an increased risk for intracerebral hemorrhage, particularly if they have decreased platelet levels, research shows.
Roll Call: Billy Tauzin, the former Louisiana lawmaker, will leave his job as the president of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America next Wednesday, and part ways - for the first time in 18 years - with his trusty communications director, Ken Johnson. As Roll Call puts it, "The sun is setting on a K Street bromance." Tauzin is likely to start a lobbying firm with his son Tom or practice law in Texas, while Johnson will pursue other work. The two were said to be "attached at the hip" (Murray, 6/23).
With a cure rate approaching 90 percent, acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) - the most common type of childhood cancer - is often hailed as one of the "success stories" of modern cancer treatment. But up to 20 percent of patients with a high risk of relapse are not cured. That could change with the results from a clinical trial co-led by investigators from NYU Langone Medical Center, which shows giving high doses of a commonly-used chemotherapy drug increases the survival rate for these patients.
