A study published in the June issue of Anesthesiology has shown that a drug metabolite of the opioid morphine may be a key factor in the paradoxical increased sensitivity to pain caused by chronic morphine use. For the first time, this metabolite (called morphine-6 glucuronide, or M6G) was shown to act independently of the pain receptors typically targeted during morphine administration.
The Food Standards Agency is reiterating its advice about eating eggs in the light of the Soil Association's report on a particular feed additive residue in eggs. The report does not raise any immediate health concerns but the Agency is continuing to press industry to ensure that the additive, lasalocid, is not found in eggs.
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC has been recognized by KLAS, an independent healthcare research organization, as the leader in its use of healthcare information technology among pediatric hospitals in the United States.
Ludwig Cancer Research scientists have developed a new and more accurate method to identify the molecular signs of cancer likely to be presented to helper T cells, which stimulate and orchestrate the immune response to tumors and infectious agents.
