Slowed amyloid-beta turnover may explain aging's association with increased amyloidosis and Alzheimer's disease, say researchers.
"The Obama administration and Congress should continue efforts to strengthen the safety of America's drug supply and, simultaneously, coordinate a global response to the problem of counterfeit drugs," Thomas Kubic, president & CEO of the Pharmaceutical Security Institute and a former deputy assistant director at the FBI, writes in a post on The Hill's "Congress Blog," where he describes the health risks associated with such drugs.
Dr. Santosh D'Mello, professor of molecular and cell biology at the University of Texas at Dallas, has received a federal grant for research that may shed light on why and how specific brain cells are affected by Huntington's disease, a devastating, degenerative brain disorder.
Patients with multiple sclerosis who smoke appear to experience a more rapid progression of their disease, according to a report in the July issue of Archives of Neurology, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
