The currently approved mRNA vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech help create neutralizing antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Both companies designed their vaccines to be delivered in two doses. However, given the limited supply of vaccines worldwide, a new modeling study has suggested that vaccinating more people with the first dose and delaying the second could be an alternate route to achieving population immunity that could reduce mortality rates.
Scientists at UC San Francisco have found a more precise way to turn off genes, a finding that will speed research discoveries and biotech advances and may eventually prove useful in reprogramming cells to regenerate organs and tissues.
A working group of virologists headed by Professor Hans-Georg Kräusslich at Heidelberg University Hospitals, jointly with Professor Hanswalter Zentgraf, Division of Applied Tumor Virology of the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (German Cancer Research Center, DKFZ), have been the first to label Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV) for visual investigations without inhibiting the functional characteristics of the virus.

The agreement enables GS GmbH to expand the vital signs and noninvasive measurement capabilities of its defibrillators and patient monitoring systems to help EMS professionals detect and treat life-threatening conditions earlier.
A new study from UCLA found that a drug being evaluated to treat an entirely different disorder helped slow the progression of Parkinson's disease in mice.
