Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the first 2D digital mammography system that allows patients to increase or decrease the amount of compression applied to their own breast before the mammogram x-ray is taken.
Richard T. Clark, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MRK) today announced a new organizational structure and named top management and senior leaders for the new Merck effective upon completion of the merger of Merck & Co., Inc. and Schering-Plough Corporation. Mr. Clark was named CEO of the combined company when the merger agreement was signed in March.
A new investment fund structured by JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will, for the first time, allow individual and institutional investors the opportunity to finance late-stage global health technologies that have the potential to save millions of lives in low-income countries.
Each hour of TV watched by a two- to four-year- old contributes to his or her waist circumference by the end of grade 4 and his or her ability to perform in sports, according to a world-first study undertaken by researchers at the University of Montreal and its affiliated Saint-Justine Mother and Child University Hospital.
Advances in technology and medical care have dramatically improved survival for infants born prior to 30 weeks gestation and weighing less than three pounds. However, up to 50 percent of these infants may develop physical, cognitive, language and/or behavioral impairments that require extensive health care, educational and psychosocial community resources through adulthood. At this time, there is no reliable method to identify those infants who will go on to develop impairments and those who will not.
