The Indian Heart Watch (IHW) study has revealed the truth behind the prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of key risk factors that are driving the country's growing cardiovascular disease (CVD) epidemic, in a first-of-a-kind presentation of data at the World Congress of Cardiology today.
Malaria remains a global health problem of staggering dimensions and despite many efforts to fight the disease; the situation today is worsening with more than 1 million deaths per year.
Yassar Youssef, M.D., is the first surgeon in Baltimore City to perform gallbladder surgery using just one incision and the da Vinci Surgical System. Because the single incision of about an inch is made in the patient's navel, he or she is left without a noticeable scar.
In the United States, more than 12 million children hear a minority language at home from birth. More than two-thirds hear English as well, and they reach school age with varying levels of proficiency in two languages.
Men who undergo prostate-cancer screening should discuss with a doctor the uncertainties, risks and benefits of the test before it is performed, says Edward Partridge, M.D., president-elect of the American Cancer Society National Board of Directors and director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center.
