Surveying patients with traumatic brain injuries, a group of Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute researchers reported today that they found those who tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, were more likely to survive than those who tested negative for the illicit substance.
The Calité Research group at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche together with the Department of Statistics, Mathematics and Computer Science, have designed the app 'Alicia'. The team collaborated with different Spanish medical centres and was coordinated by the Professor José Joaquín Mira. The aim of this application adapted to iPhone, iPad and Android, is to help patients over 65 years with multiple pathologies to administer their own medication at home.
Psychological trauma leaves a trail of damage in a child's brain, say scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Their new study gives the first direct evidence that children with symptoms of post-traumatic stress suffer poor function of the hippocampus, a brain structure that stores and retrieves memories. The research helps explain why traumatized children behave as they do and could improve treatments for these kids.
Today (Wednesday 24 June 2015) His Royal Highness The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay will officially open the Golden Jubilee Innovation Centre – a focal point for driving forward innovations for NHSScotland.
The study Dr. Chlebowski authored reported that estrogen plus progestin use is linked with increased breast cancer incidence. In addition, it said the prognosis is similar for both users and nonusers of combined hormone therapy, suggesting that mortality from breast cancer may be higher for hormone therapy users as well.
