Lazarus Effect, a medical device company focused on the development of novel interventional devices to facilitate removal of blood clots, announced the closing of a $5 million financing. Proceeds from the financing will support EU commercialization of several approved Lazarus Effect devices, as well as regulatory filings for the Lazarus ReCover and Lazarus Cover in the United States.
"Financial barriers to marriage are a significant issue for many young, working- and middle-class couples as well as for the poor and near-poor," said Pamela Smock, associate director of the U-M Institute for Social Research (ISR) and a contributor to a special issue of the Journal of Marriage and Family on the future of marriage released in Washington today.
A protein called isocitrate dehydrogenase is present at high levels in lung cancers and can be detected in the blood, making it a noninvasive diagnostic marker for lung cancers, according to a study published in Clinical Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
Following a workshop hosted by the CERN European particle physics laboratory in February, doctors and physicists today published a strategy for harnessing physics for health. Techniques developed for physics research have a long history of application in medicine. Today's news recognises that synergy, and sets out a programme of strengthened collaboration.
The Frank May Prize Lecture 2010, entitled 'Fishing for Complement: innate targeting of microbial pathogens', will be given by Dr Russell Wallis, Reader and RCUK Academic Fellow in the Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, and Department of Biochemistry.
