The results of a study conducted in Brazil suggest that the sympathetic nervous system - the part of the autonomous nervous system that controls responses to danger or stress - can modulate the action of defense cells in patients with autoimmune diseases.
When a physician's office is closed or an urgent care facility is not available, many people in need of non-emergency medical care turn to the very place they shouldn't have to - the emergency room of the closest hospital. There they may face long waits while life-threatening conditions take precedence. It's inconvenient and uncomfortable, and it results in potentially higher than needed treatment costs for patients - and for employers who provide health benefits.
Impax Laboratories, Inc. today reported significant growth in the first quarter of 2010 due to an increase in sales from its Global product sales channel. Total revenue increased $264.4 million to $323.3 million driven by the successful March 2 exclusive launch of generic Flomax® ($176.2 million of revenue and $167.9 million of gross profit) and continued strong sales of generic Adderall XR® for which there were no comparable amounts in the first quarter 2009, as well as increased sales of the Company's fenofibrate products.
Researchers at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Villigen, Switzerland, have determined the crystal structure of the ligand binding domain of a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor in complex with one of its ligands (VEGF-C).
Prions are a class of misfolded proteins that form aggregates called "amyloid fibrils." These aggregates are the main culprit behind severe mammalian neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.
