To find the causes for cancer, biochemists and developmental biologists at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, retraced the function of an important human cancer gene 600 million years back in time. For the first time, they have identified the oncogene myc in a fresh water polyp and they have shown that this oncogene has similar biochemical functions in ancestral metazoan and in humans.
Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI), a molecular breast imaging technique with comparable sensitivity to breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detecting breast carcinoma when used in pre-surgical planning for patients with known cancer diagnoses and is substantially less expensive than MRI, according to findings presented today at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer Symposium in San Francisco, California.
Recent studies have shown that a 64-detector CT angiography utilizing prospective electrocardiographic gating produces a quality image but considerably reduced patient radiation dose when compared to retrospective ECG gating, according to research being presented at the 2011 American Roentgen Ray Society's annual meeting.
SXC Health Solutions Corp. a leading provider of pharmacy benefit management (PBM) products and services, today announced that its informedRx PBM unit has been awarded a three-year contract valued at approximately $240 million per year with a large Health Plan based on the U.S. east coast.
