The Department of Justice and the HHS Office of Inspector General in a report issued this week announced that their joint Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control Program - which attempts to reduce waste, fraud and abuse in federal health care programs - will collect $1.47 billion from criminal or civil cases brought during fiscal year 2005, The Hill reports.
The metastasis or spread of breast cancer to other tissues in the body can be predicted more accurately by examining subnetworks of gene expression patterns in a patient's tumor, than by conventional gene expression microarrays, according to a presentation at the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) 48th Annual Meeting, Dec. 13-17, 2008 in San Francisco.
Calculating individual genetic cancer risk and taking age into account could mean fewer women would need to be screened for breast cancer, according to research published in the British Journal of Cancer1.
As the clock ticks toward the panel's Thanksgiving deadline, the question of raising taxes continues to be a sticking point. Republicans and Democrats appear to be trying to "horsetrade" revenue increases for entitlement program cuts.
