Technology that aims to keep congestive heart failure patients out of the hospital is gaining traction. The idea is for heart patients to take readings like their weight, blood pressure and other key metrics using wireless and other technologies; the data are then transmitted to a case manager or medical care giver.
With both bleeding und thrombotic complications having a negative effect on PCI outcomes, increasing efforts have been made to improve PCI anticoagulation regimens. Although unfractionated heparin has been the standard anti-thrombotic agent in interventional cardiology for decades, there is still no solid evidence from large clinical trials to guide its dosing during PCI.
Preventable childhood deaths caused by illnesses such as pneumonia and diarrhea can be nearly eliminated in 10 years according to researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the National Institutes of Health. In a new commentary featured in the June issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers outline a strategy and benchmarks for curbing childhood preventable deaths and recommend a new common vision for a global commitment to end all preventable child deaths.
