Boston Medical Center, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Boston Public Health Commission, has launched a new opioid urgent care center to give patients with substance use disorders rapid access to a full continuum of treatment services.
Currently, the medical community has limited ability in clinically assessing blockages called atherosclerotic plaques in the human body. These dangerous blockages that can lead to heart attacks and strokes are not easily diagnosed due to "the lack of noninvasive imaging techniques to accurately model atherosclerotic plaques in vivo," said Guohua Cao, assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Virginia Tech.
New research published today in the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery shows ischemic stroke patients are arriving to hospitals and treatment centers an average of 160 minutes later during the COVID-19 pandemic, as compared with a similar timeframe in 2019.
There's a typical "career" for some allergic people, and it starts very early on the skin: babies develop atopic dermatitis, food allergies may follow, then comes asthma and later on hay fever. A group of scientists led by Ingo Marenholz and Young-Ae Lee at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association, working with colleagues from several institutions, has now identified seven genetic risk loci for this course of disease.
Occupational disability in patients with bipolar disorder is associated with the presence of axis II disorders, a greater number of previous manic episodes, older age, and not being in a stable relationship, researchers report.
