Researchers have identified a potential new signaling pathway and enzyme that may help further the understanding of blood clot formation in chronic kidney disease patients and ultimately be targeted for therapeutic purposes.
The supercomputer Cadmos, installed at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in August of 2009, has bared one of its first fruits: the Laboratory of Multiscale Modeling of Materials has recently developed a computer program the accurately models the complex system of blood flow in the heart for individuals at an unheard-of precision of ten millionths of a meter or ten microns.
A new study shows how specific factors such as gender, age and mood disorders like anxiety and depression can lead patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) to inaccurately assess their heart rhythm.
Compared to small and "micro" businesses, larger companies have made more progress toward introducing the Total Worker Health approach to worker health and safety, reports the August Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
