If you have optimal heart health in middle age, you may live up to 14 years longer, free of cardiovascular disease, than your peers who have two or more cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, according to a new Northwestern Medicine study.
By combining two relatively inexpensive technologies based on sound and light waves, researchers hope to lower the rate at which women undergo breast biopsies for suspicious lesions. Results of the study on ultrasound-guided optical tomography are published in the online edition and the August print issue of Radiology.
In just 21 days, CVS/pharmacy's ninth annual in-store fundraising campaign to support the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) brought in $4.1 million. The funds raised by the campaign will be donated to the Boston-based ALS Therapy Alliance (ATA) to support the funding of new clinical research aimed at developing new therapies for ALS patients and focused on the ultimate goal of finding a cure for ALS.
A team of scientists from the National University of Science and Technology "MISIS", the Moscow Technological University and the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University has experimentally proved the effectiveness of the formerly suggested "light" method in oncotherapy.
Increasing literacy and curbing HIV/AIDS is the centerpiece of the U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) new three-year effort designed to stabilize parts of Haiti plagued by community unrest.
