Kinetic Concepts, Inc. today announced that a United States District Court jury has found that a negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) product marketed and sold by Smith & Nephew plc (NYSE: SNN) infringes two patents owned by Wake Forest University Health Sciences, which are exclusively licensed to KCI.
The presence and severity of peripheral arterial disease, as measured by comparing blood pressures in the arm and leg, and the nature of the leg symptoms a patient experiences can be used to identify those at highest risk of decline in walking endurance, according to a study in the July 28 issue of JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Scientists have now mapped the core set of genes that are consistently controlled during DNA uptake in strep bacteria, and they hope the finding will allow them to cut off the microbes' ability to survive what doctors and nature can throw at them.
