Aniak, Alaska, is a Yu'pik village of 500 people on the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta, about 400 miles northwest of Anchorage. Republicans in the U.S. Senate on Thursday unveiled a bill that would dramatically transform the nation's Medicaid program, make significant changes to the federal health law's tax credits that help lower-income people buy insurance and allow states to water down changes to some of the law's coverage guarantees.
In a round-up of events from the XIX International AIDS Conference on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's "Impatient Optimists" blog, Trevor DeWitt, new media communications officer for the foundation, notes that the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria on Monday released results "showing broad gains in the number of people receiving HIV treatment."
