THE deliberations of a small group of specialists, meeting in Edinburgh tomorrow, will help make progress in cancer research all over the world.On Thursday (September 30) nineteen international scientists are due to get round the table to decide which cancer research projects, from the 125 in front of them, will benefit from a grants package totalling more than £4 million.
In order for targeted therapies against cancer to be effective, scientists need to understand upfront what related proteins in a signaling "network" makes a cancer cell resistant to a drug and selectively target them as well, say researchers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and Fox Chase Cancer Center.
According to a new study children suffering from muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and other such conditions, have a much higher risk of severe complications from influenza, re-affirming the need for them to be vaccinated each year.
Patients who are evaluated for liver diseases such as hepatitis C (HCV) are typically recommended for liver biopsy to determine the extent of disease progression.
Members of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Energy and Commerce Committee are following the spending trail of Obama administration health programs.
