The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Medical Center has been designated a Level IV NICU, the highest qualification for such programs, as established by the American Academy of Pediatrics under newly revised standards.
The CLASS Act, part of the new health reform law (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act), will offer a type of long term care insurance for working people and others who may become disabled. But confusion and doubt are widespread. "Many wonder how the CLASS Act will affect them personally," says Jonas Roeser, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Operations for LTC Financial Partners LLC, one of the nation's most experienced long term care insurance agencies.
A retrospective review of several thousand melanoma cases in North Carolina found that Medicaid patients were more likely to experience surgical treatment delays than patients with private insurance, according to a study by University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers.
The study, published July 13th in Genome Research, showcases a new protocol for studying the activity of cancer-risk variants suggested by GWAS studies. The results also underscore the dramatic consequences of small genetic changes even in the vast stretches of DNA, known as "gene deserts," that do not code for proteins.
New research shows that the addition of confocal laser endomicroscopy to high-definition white-light endoscopy enables improved real-time endoscopic diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus dysplasia (neoplastic tissue) by using targeted biopsies of abnormal mucosa to reduce unnecessary mucosal biopsies and potentially reduce costs.
