Wako Diagnostics, a division of Wako Chemicals USA, has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the uTASWako i30 instrument with alpha-fetoprotein L3 (AFP-L3) and des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin (DCP) in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests in the USA.
Sandrine Pierre, Ph.D., associate scientific director at the Marshall Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, has received a new grant from the National Institutes of Health to further her research on myocardial infarction, known as a heart attack.
A new study is expected to provide the first detailed information on how infectious diseases may be transmitted aboard commercial airliners. Sponsored by aircraft manufacturer Boeing, the research will document patterns of passenger movement inside aircraft cabins and inventory the microbes present in cabin air and on surfaces such as tray tables and lavatory fixtures.
The United States today announced that it has settled False Claims Act allegations against FORBA Holdings LLC, a dental management company that provides business management and administrative services to 69 clinics nationwide known as "Small Smiles Centers." Under the agreement, FORBA will pay the United States and participating states $24 million, plus interest, to resolve allegations that it caused bills to be submitted to state Medicaid programs for medically unnecessary dental services performed on children insured by Medicaid, which is funded jointly by the federal and state governments.
