As the population ages, the need for professional caregivers to provide in-home services for ill and disabled patients is increasing. The National Institutes of Health has awarded a two-year development grant to researchers with Hasbro Children's Hospital and the Bradley Hasbro Children's Research Center to better understand the role behavioral health plays in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a condition that causes chronic and painful inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.
The intricate interplay of proteins and other chemicals that underlies most biological activities requires the participation of enzymes, specialized molecules that accelerate chemical reactions between molecules.
