Deforestation in Brazil has been linked to an increase in malaria incidence there, according to findings published online Wednesday in the CDC journal, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Agence France-Presse reports.
A study in the Sept. 1 issue of the journal Sleep shows that teens who slept less than eight hours per weeknight ate higher proportions of fatty foods and snacks than adolescents who slept eight hours or more. The results suggest that short sleep duration may increase obesity risk by causing small changes in eating patterns that cumulatively alter energy balance, especially in girls.
The results are now published in Nature Medicine and at the same time the tool - the Molecular Tumor Board Portal - will be launched on www.mtbp.org. Janne Lehtiö, professor at the Karolinska Institutet Department of Oncology-Pathology led this work, along with researcher David Tamborero.
A meta-analysis of eight previously published clinical trials suggests that initial stent implantation for patients with stable coronary artery disease is not associated with improved outcomes compared with initial medical therapy for prevention of death, nonfatal heart attacks, unplanned revascularization or angina, according to a study published in the Feb. 27 Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
Sorin Group, a global medical company and a leader in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, announced today that the INTENSIA family of implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices received CE (Conformité Européenne) mark approval. This family of devices includes the single-chamber INTENSIA VR, the dual-chamber INTENSIA DR and the INTENSIA SonR® CRT-D devices, all of which feature a DF-4 high voltage connector.
