Early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease could save millions or even billions of dollars while simultaneously improving care, according to new work by University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers.
Work underway at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital seeks to harnesses the body's own immune cells known as natural killer, or NK, cells to help children battle cancer. NK cells are the immune system's warriors. The cells circulate widely in the body, armed with proteins, called enzymes, capable of delivering a deadly one-two punch to viruses and cancer cells.
Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics, a leader in the field of human gene therapy, today released data showing that its gene therapy Glybera® (alipogene tiparvovec) significantly reduces the risk of pancreatitis in patients with Lipoprotein Lipase Deficiency (LPLD). Pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas, is a major clinical symptom of LPLD.
Dr. Amanda Paulovich, whose lab has a leading role in the Beau Biden Cancer Moonshot, will speak April 5 at the American Association for Cancer Research annual meeting about her lab's pioneering methods to measure proteins that serve as tumor markers.
